When I was young, my father used to tell me: “If you don’t ask, the answer is always NO!” and that is what happened in Woodward, Oklahoma. They took the chance and asked former President George W. Bush to join them in celebrating their “Let Freedom Ring 2009″ 4th of July celebration. To their surprise and excitement – the answer came back “yes”, he would love to join them.

Since that moment, the whole “Let Freedom Ring 2009″ theme has taken on a whole new perspective for the 12,000 people town as the city prepares for this evenings event.

George W. Bush is scheduled to give a 40 minute address shortly after 6 p.m. tonight.

“Let Freedom Ring 2009″ is part of the grand celebration of the 80th anniversary celebration of Woodward’s “Crystal Beach Park” – newly $25 million dollar renovation project.

Preparations at Crystal Beach Park for celebration

The past several days have been filled with excitement, stress, and a lot of hard work by hundreds of people and companies from around the State of Oklahoma. Landscapers, pavers, concrete workers, media, marketing and many others have been working endless hours to help make this celebration happen.

CIDANews.com has been following the progress since Monday. Much of the immediate work has been in the Rodeo arena area and the new water park area in order to get those areas finished for some of the best names in country music and of course the former President.

On Monday most of the parking lot was still a dirt lot with concrete islands in the middle. There was still much grade work that needed to be done as well as putting down blacktop and sod. Within a day – most of the lot was paved and by the end of Tuesday strips were marked out for customer parking. What a transition.

By Wednesday, much of the irrigation was finished and sod started rolling out.

One of the companies working throughout the week was Expedition Landscaping, Inc., based out of Oklahoma City. They are overseeing the landscaping and working very closely with the irrigation company scheduled to finish their work near the end of this month.

Other companies involved in the renovation project of Crystal Beach Park include: Kline Construction – the main construction company in charge of overseeing the entire project,  Broce Construction, and many others.

CIDANews.com spoke with many individuals that are doing work on the project and  most of them agreed that this celebration was a year too early. They would have liked to see the entire park finished before the big celebration; however, they also weren’t expecting that the former President would have said yes to their invitation.

Overall – it was a grand celebration and the people of Woodward have something very special to talk about for years to come.
