The Waters of the Queen Charlotte Islands

Perfect for Fishermen of All Levels

The Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia are breathtaking for any sightseer. As an angler, however, these small islands nestled near the North Pacific Current provide a plethora of game fish, as well as a serene environment to pursue them in. With the mild temperatures and cool waters, species of all kinds call these islands home while fishermen from around the world call them perfection.

One of the most enticing aspects of Queen Charlotte Islands fishing is the wide variety of game fish available. The much sought-after king salmon, also known as the Chinook salmon or spring salmon, is the featured attraction. These fish are native to the Pacific coast and commonly weigh more than 30 pounds, although they can reach sizes over 100 pounds.

Coho salmon, sometimes called silver salmon, are another sport favorite. Additional species common to the area include red snapper and ling cod, and another great attraction is the abundance of halibut. The waterways around the Queen Charlotte Islands also harbor such aquatic delicacies such as Dungeness crab, one of the most important species of crab in the Pacific Northwest.

Between the incredible fishing and the idyllic environment, it can be frustrating to have to worry about finding the perfect location to spend your time as well as obtaining gear and bait. Because of this complexity, many people choose to hire guides through a Queen Charlotte Islands charter boat. This option allows everyone from beginners to regular fishermen to focus on relaxation, while they take care of all else. Many times this includes your bait, gear and outerwear; rather than worrying about weather and water conditions, you can simply rely on experts to take you where you need to go and assist you in catching the fish of your dreams.

Beginners and expert anglers can all rest assured that many of these charter companies advise their visitors on obtaining the proper credentials and license before their vacation. Though experts may already have these taken care of, it is important to be reminded of said requirements. Not only do they prepare you beforehand, they often provide assistance in preparation and shipment of your big catch so you can be certain it meets you when you are home. These professionals are passionate about the sport and are willing to help you make your vacation to the Queen Charlotte Islands truly memorable and carefree.

No matter your familiarity with the sport of fishing or catch of choice, the Queen Charlotte Islands provide a stunning back drop for your fishing experience.

Portable Jumpstart: what you need in an Emergency

Posted on 14. Jan, 2010 by Ray Jenkins in Autos

Have you ever gotten into your auto and found that the battery is dead? Have you been driving along and find that your battery is lethargic, which is making your vehicle hard to drive?

Unfortunately, there’s not very much you can do when your battery is dead. You are sort of left to your own devices. You can decide to call a pal, stop a passerby, or walk to your destination. None of these options is ideal, and that’s why you must have a portable kick start in your vehicle. When you have a portable jumpstart you can get the battery charged and be on your way in less time than you believed possible.

A movable jump-start is like having another vehicle with you at all times. You simply hook the unit up to your vehicle and operate as instructed and you will receive the charge you want to get going again. The transportable units will put you back on the road so you do not need to be any more inconvenienced by the dead battery than you need be. A dead car battery will never be convenient, but it’ll be less dramatic when you have a portable jump-start in your vehicle.

It is necessary that you buy the right portable jump-start for your car, as they aren’t all the same. You want to take a look at your car battery and write down the voltage and amperage of the battery. The explanation for that is that there are lots of different battery chargers on the market and you need to make sure that you get the proper one.

If you don’t buy the battery charger that is correct for your vehicle you’ll find that it does not work when you need it most. If you are doubtful of what you should be purchasing, you need to ask the sales person at your automobile parts store for assistance. Once you narrow down which amperage and voltage is best for you, you can start to take a look at your options apropos budget.

Conveniently there are a large number of options available for every sort of battery, so you may be sure you’ll find something that fits your needs as well as your budget. Conveyable automobile battery charger units usually start around the $50 range and they will go up to and beyond the $300 range. If you are buying on a budget don’t be fooled, you can still purchase a portable jump-start.

The current generation has become dangerously habituated to an inactive and lethargic lifestyle. Pollution has accentuated a number of other problems like busy schedules and serious competition to create a health risk around the globe.

On top of this, with competition levels rising at a fever pitch, the need to stay fit and healthy has increased manifold. Consequently, fitness training has become an important need for people of all ages and from all walks of life.

But fitness programs are not so simple and they must never be tried without an expert to help you out. For this reason, it is always prudent to go for a personal trainer who has all the required qualifications and training in this field, and who can offer the right guidance.

Personal training can inspire and even compel a person to scrupulously follow a fitness plan without any breaks. Going to the gym is often avoided by people after a long day at office. It is during such times that a personal trainer comes to one’s aid. Moreover, he will have the needed talent to chalk out an appropriate health program for you as per your specific requirements and fitness goals.

Personal trainers are trained to conduct tests and assess the precise needs of every client. Hence they are of immense help in fixing your fitness aims and keeping you informed about the key areas that you must work on. Personal training is all about recognizing the specific requirements of the body and designing the program accordingly. A normal person might follow a fitness regime out of unawareness and this might result in tiredness or even serious injuries. A step by step progress is essential in any fitness program, and personal training can help you identify these steps.

If you are a busy person, having a personal trainer can ensure that you don’t have to pay regular visits to the gym. A personal trainer can even come to your home for training if you already have exercise equipment installed at your home.

You can experience a radical difference in your personal and social life after undergoing a fitness program under the able guidance of a qualified trainer who is determined, focused and patient with you at the same time. It would not be an exaggeration to say that all one needs to do for healthy living in today’s world is to get an experienced personal trainer.

How to Give Your Child’s Education a Boost in 2010!

New Year’s Resolutions: Giving Your Child the Help They Deserve

Trends in education

As parents we strive to have the very best available for our children. As educators we want to encourage learning beyond the classroom. As legislators we fight against the ever increasing budget cuts that – despite our genuine efforts to keep up with the demands – threaten to strangle our educational system.

2nd Grade Math

2nd Grade Math

Fueled by fears of recession are new fears that our traditional education system may not remain adequate equipping our children for their future. Traditional classroom settings cannot always cover all important areas of education any more; and were never meant to be. Competition is the work force is fierce. So we want to prepare our children as best as we can, exposing them to the most up-to-date technologies and trends.

Pro-active parents will not sit around waiting for some one else to provide a solution. They go out and find a solution that will support and challenge their children in their path of learning.

CIDA News wants to highlight one such program that we would rate 5 Star for interactive educational value: Time4learning.

Parent Tools & Lesson Plans

Parent Tools & Lesson Plans

Time4learning is a computer-based, interactive learning program that brings learning sequences to the general public. The curriculum provided is current and comprehensive for all major subjects. It is also divided into chapters and sub-chapters in such a manner that it can be used as both a complete curriculum, or to review only single aspects. It is extremely easy to navigate, and has separate parent and student log-in for ease of use and record keeping.

At the same time it is graphically appealing and performs interactive functions without any glitches; unlike some other learning oriented resources. No time is wasted for loading graphics or sound. We found the lessons to be stimulating, challenging and yes, entertaining. As did the children we interviewed.

Fifth Graders Economics Project

Fifth Graders Economics Project

A group of fifth graders used the Economics’ module to prepare for a neighborhood sale project. Not only did they enjoy the “Lemonade Stand” and Hot Chocolate Sale” illustration in the lesson; they found it close to home and something they could easily understand. Had they not actually sold lemonade at a garage sale not too long before.

They learned about the “cute factor” – in the example a puppy dog face on the cup – and how it positively influences sales volume. When they finally went out to sell their own product in the neighborhood, they applied the “cute factor” in a different way: taking along their 5 year old brother. He also got to explain the benefits of their product. His presence increased their sales dramatically.

This program has a wide range of uses from a complete at-home alternative to the traditional classroom setting, or just some extra practice for after school or summer school. The customer support is live and outstanding. It is reasonably priced and well worth the little extra expense. There are no mandatory sign-up periods; use it one month or several, there is no long term obligation. The company even offers a 14 day money-back guarantee, but we have yet to speak to someone who was not completely satisfied.

Yes Virginia, The Perfect Tool Storage System Is Out There!

Posted on 11. Jan, 2010 by Gerald Connor in Home Improvements

Most of us own at least a hammer, saw, and nails. How would we hang that picture without them, right? For the casual repair minded guy or girl, these basics might suffice, but things get more complicated as time goes on. We graduate to screwdrivers and wrenches, tape measures and levels, crowbars and files.

What do we do with all these tools?

Alas, for many of us, we just throw them into an old box, or onto the shelf, or chuck them into the garage. Not a very glorious storage place for our cherished implements is it? Having said that, is a tool chest the most appropriate storage device for everyone? We have identified eight different types of tool storage systems. These systems are:

Tool Storage #1) Soft Tool Carriers

Made to store your tools efficiently, they are usually made out of “rip-stop” materials (to reduce the chance of tearing). Great for carrying tools around the house for those “quick jobs”.

Tool Storage #2) Tool Organizer on the Wall

Many of us live in townhouses or condos where space is at the premium. We need to store our tools, but we don’t have much space. Wall-mounted tool organizing units are great for these particular situations. They keep your tools organized, and out of the way as well.

Storage Device #3) The Carpenters’ Toolbox

Carpenters have specific tools to perform their job with. They need a system to not only store these implements, but to transport them back and forth from the job site. The Carpenters’ Tool Box not only fits these needs, it meets one more. It is usually made out of wood (to protect metal blades and bit edges from damage).

Storage System #4) Mechanics’ Toolbox

When the car, truck or motorcycle finds its way into the shop, the mechanic is there to help out. Mechanics’ have special tools…and the mechanics’ toolbox (made out of metal or high-impact resin for durability) is ready for the storage challenge. The best versions of this type of system have drawer trays and drawer liners.

Storage Device #5) Compartment Parts Box

Many of us have very small parts and accessories that are always getting lost or in the way. This storage system is just the thing. It is especially made for storing:

  • Very small tools
  • Drill Bits
  • Saw Blades
  • Those commonly used parts
  • Those Small Nails
  • Tiny Screws

These units are usually made out of metal (or high-impact resin). Some models have adjustable compartments.

Storage Device #6) The Mechanics’ Tool Chest

Made especially for storing the specific tools that a mechanic needs on the job, they are usually made out of high-impact resin or metal (for extra durability). Some of these chests have wheels so that they can be moved easily around the garage.

Tool Storage #7) Gang Box

If you have a lot of tools that you need to move around the job site, these storage systems are idea. They are usually made out of very durable materials, like metal or high-impact resin. Most of these systems have locking tops to ensure that tools do not “walk off”.

Tool Storage #8) A Box for the Truck

If you have a truck, these storage systems are great for not only storing your tools, but transporting them to and fro. They are usually made out of steel, high-impact resin, or aluminum. Since these systems are fitted onto the back of a truck, they are usually equipped with locking tops to ensure tool safety.

We hope that this “round-up” of tool storage systems was helpful. If finding that great tool chest is “Job 1″, please visit our blog. Not only do we offer more tips and advice, we have ordering information for our top picks.

Wyoming the 44th State

Wyoming the 44th State

Wyoming the 44th State

Wyoming the 44th State

Wyoming is the 44th state; it was founded on July 10, 1890. Cheyenne is not only the capital, but it is also the most densely populated and largest city in Wyoming. The state flower, the beautiful Indian Paintbrush, grows wild on the edges of highways.

If you ever take a trip to Wyoming, you should not miss visiting Yellowstone National Park. This national park is the oldest national park in the world and the largest in the US. Yellowstone National Park has great opportunities for observing nature: Bears, snakes, bison, moose, birds and a large variety of trees, and meadows full of wild flowers.

If you travel to Wyoming, other places such as Bighorn Canyon, Devil’s Tower, Fort Laramie, Pony Express National Trail, and the Grand Teton National Park are great places to visit.

Wyoming is a state everybody should know about.

50 States in 50 Days – What is Memorable in the Eyes of a Child?

Posted on 08. Jan, 2010 by KG in Education, Parenting, Product Review

What started at age five with a talking map puzzle five years later has blossomed into a creative writing exercise. No longer is it just a metallic voice that informs us in a somewhat monotone singsong: “Nevada. The Silver State. State Capital: Carson City.

“ Don’t get me wrong. At age five and six our kids knew more about the 50 States than most, thanks to just that puzzle. As did we, and our cats, who, without fail, would walk across it in the middle of the night, no matter how high up we shelved it. We would then wake up to the sounds of „America the Beautiful“ . No “Off” button; the only downfall of this puzzle map. But I digress.

Now our children have been assigned a school project: Learn quick facts and interesting things about each of the 50 States in 50 days. So they dig into the depth of the encyclopedia, or its computerized counterpart, Wikipedia, Google the net for fun facts and pictures, and try to make intelligent notes of things worth memorizing.

We hope you enjoy our experience of traveling the 50 States in 50 days!

Struggling to Loose Weight? Or to Just Get into Better Shape?

Deep Fried Foods Health Debate

Deep Fried Foods Health Debate

Modern day diets are woefully short on healthy ingredients like fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. We live in a fast paced society that values instant gratification, so it comes as no surprise that we favor fast food and our bodies pay the price.

When it comes to Diets

It is very important to create a diet that is both balanced and varied. Indulging in the occasional sinful treat is not going to ruin your health, but making wise food choices can substantially improve your nutrition. If you need to evaluate your daily nutrition, try cutting these 12 foods out of your diet altogether. To lose fat and build muscle you must avoid these 12 foods and remove them from your diet completely.

Deep fried fats and oils: Foods deep fried in fats and oil will definitely raise your bad cholesterol and have been linked to cancer.

fbf-banner-300x250White flour: Wheat is a nutritious food until the bran and germ is removed, leaving behind a product that lacks essential nutrients. Refined flour products are also linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

Sugar: Calories aside, most people do not know that the fructose in refined sugar also raises your cholesterol levels.

Canned soups: It is so easy to open a can of soup for a quick, satisfying meal, but beware: many canned soups contain high levels of sodium, fat and calories.

Donuts: There is nothing nutritionally virtuous about a deep fried refined white flour blob dipped in sugar.

Energy drinks: You may get an energy boost from some popular energy drinks on the market, but you also get sky high amounts of sugar, caffeine and carbohydrates.

French fries: The simple sugars in potatoes quickly convert to glucose and raise your insulin levels significantly. French fries are extremely high in trans fat, calories, sodium and the carcinogen acrylamide.

Granola Bars: Granola may have started out as a health food, but it has evolved into something much worse. The granola bars you find in the supermarket rival candy bars in respect to fat, calorie, and sugar content.

Dried Fruit: You may have munched on it during a hike, or packed it in your lunch, but you might want to forget it altogether. Dried fruit is often coated with sugar and is loaded with additives and preservatives.

Margarine: Once thought of as a healthy alternative to butter, the trans fat in margarine is linked to a higher risk of heart disease.

Sodas: Sodas and colas are packed with tons of sugar and caffeine. Even diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners that may lead to long-term, unpleasant side effects.

Hot Dogs: There is nothing healthy about the hot dog. This summertime grill staple is loaded with preservatives, sodium and fat. Choose lean chicken or salmon for your next cookout.
